Household Hazardous & Special Wastes

Wondering how to dispose of Household Hazardous Waste?

The Northeast Kingdom Waste Management District offers Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) disposal seasonally, May through the beginning of October, at the Lyndonville Recycling Center by appointment.   For district residents ONLY.

The NEKWMD HHW collection program is for all NEKWMD residents. Residents, district schools and businesses must call the NEKWMD to schedule an appointment;

Due to the high cost of handling and disposal fees for household hazardous waste, the district has nominal fees for these disposal costs. They will be collected at both the remote events and at our Lyndonville office. The fee schedule is as follows;

  • A fee of $10.00 will be charged for a standard size recycling container (14 gallon bin) containing, (pesticides, fertilizers, cleansers, other non-flammables.
  • A $1.00 per gallon charge for flammable liquids, ( gas, mixed fuels, diesel, and antifreeze will be charged with a limit of 15 gallons for flammable liquids per appointment.

To make an appointment:

Step 1.

Make a list of your HHW items and approximate quantities. A complete list is required so please have the information ready before you call to schedule an appointment.

Step 2.

Call us at 802-626-3532 to make a Tuesday or Thursday appointment. Cash or check are accepted as forms of payment.

We also host regional events for HHW disposal throughout the collection season. These events are open to all district members from any of our towns, no appointment necessary. To serve as many residents as possible, the amount of material you can bring to an event is limited to 15 gallons of flammable liquid material and your non-flammable totes . If you have more than this, please call us to schedule an appointment in Lyndonville.
