Scrap Yard
Scrap Yard
Before entering our scrap yard, residents must check in with a staff member. Someone is in the office M-F from 8a-4p and Saturday there is an attendant available in the recycling center. This is required for every entry into the yard. We ask this to ensure materials are placed in the correct area. The area may look unorganized but there is a method to our madness.
Our scrap yard accepts:
- White goods like washers and dryers
- Items containing Freon like refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, and air conditioners. Proof of district residency is needed for items containing Freon, and businesses will have to pay a small recovery fee.
- Tires (see fees and program details below)
- Propane tanks that hold 100 pounds or less.

The large scrap metal bin is for metal items and items containing mostly metal like microwaves, dishwashers, toaster ovens, and grills. Items like vacuum cleaners, coffee makers, and many fans contain very little metal and are therefore not recyclable. Please dispose of them as trash. Loose items can be placed in the bin or as close to the bin as possible. Please ask if you are wondering whether an item should be placed in the scrap metal bin or yard. Or see our A-Z guide for reference.
This is also the access point for our yard and lawn debris collection area so also see staff for admittance in this area. Only branches under 3inches diameter are accepted, nothing larger. Tires are accepted for a fee. Recycling fees must be paid before entering the scrap yard. For payment, cash and checks are accepted but no credit/debit cards. We will need to know the R (rim) size of the tire, if they are on a rim, and how many of each you are recycling.
Tire fees are as follows:
- R size 18” or under- $3, with rim $6
- R size 19”-25”- $9, with rim $18
- R size 25.5” or above- $20, with a rim $40
For larger loads, $180 per ton plus the scale fee. Please call ahead to be sure we can accommodate larger loads of tires.
NEW POLICY:
You must have proof of district residency to drop off freezers, refrigerators, air conditioners, de-humidifiers, or any item containing Freon. A current utility bill, deed, or driver's license are examples of acceptable proof. COME INTO THE OFFICE FIRST OR SEE AN ATTENDANT.
All businesses, including haulers, must now pay $7 per unit for refrigerators and freezers and $3 for de-humidifiers. Cash or check only.
