Recycling & Waste Disposal
Wondering how to dispose of trash in the NEKWMD?
Many towns accept trash from residents for a fee at their local recycling center.
Select your town from the list on our District Towns page for community-specific information.
If your community does not accept trash, you can bring your trash directly to the Coventry Landfill or the St. Johnsbury Transfer Station.
Residents can also contract with a waste hauler for curb-side pick-up services.
PLEASE NOTE THAT SORTING IS REQUIRED AT ALL NEKWMD LOCATIONS.
The following items are banned from landfill disposal in Vermont:
*SOME NEKWMD FACILITIES OFFER WASTE OIL, BATTERY, SCRAP METAL, MERCURY-BULB, AND E-WASTE DISPOSAL.
*THE MAJORITY OF NEKWMD RECYCLING CENTERS ACCEPT FOOD SCRAPS FREE OF CHARGE. SOME COMMUNITIES OFFER LEAF AND YARD WASTE DISPOSAL.
*NO NEKWMD RECYCLING CENTERS ACCEPT PAINT OR OTHER HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS. Visit our
Household Hazardous Waste page for more information on HHW disposal.
